What Happened When France Met Georgia At Tsinandali Estate

It may have been the most expensive smell in the world — the aromas of more than 30 Grand Cru Burgundies rising from the tables. Considering that just one bottle of the fabled Romanée-Conti can fetch more than $2,000, the tasting was something special.

The occasion was the recent two-day Grand Jury du Vin Symposium, held at the Tsinandali Estate in Kakheti, Georgia. Normally held at Lake Como in Switzerland, the Grand Jury has recently taken their tastings to Georgia, bringing some of the world’s top wines.

This year, it wasn’t just Burgundy being showcased. There was also a tasting of top Chinese Cabernet, and a flight of top Georgian wines — all from the 2019 vintage.
